A Tearing Strength Tester is used to determine the ballistic tearing strength of woven fabrics, plastic films, paper, or other similar materials. The instrument works on Elmendorf principle. The range is from 1600 to 6400 gram (g) by adding Augmenting weights.
Paramount Tearing Strength Tester i9 (6.4 KGS) is made of Mild Steel & Stainless-Steel. It is ergonomically designed, consisting of a sector pendulum pivoted on anti-friction ball bearing on a vertical bracket fixed on a rigid metallic base. The test specimen in shape of a rectangular piece is held between two jaws, one of which is mounted on the pendulum and the other is mounted on the vertical arm. The jaws clamps are mounted in such a manner that their holding faces are aligned with each other when the pendulum is locked in its raised position. An adjustable knife is mounted on the vertical arm. It is centred between the two jaws for making initial slit in the test specimen. The pendulum is released by lifting a brake release lever. This action causes the test specimen to tear right through. The tearing strength is indicated on a calibrated scale fitted on the pendulum by a fine pointer. A Set of calibrated weights are supplied with the tester for verification of calibration of the scale at 1600, 3200 and 6400 grams, capacities. In order to increase the capacity of the tester from 1600 grams, augmenting weights of 3200 grams & 6400 grams are supplied as standard accessories.
